Updates on Breeze and Hazelle (long post with lots of pictures)

Well as some of you might have noticed I am a terrible blogger but I decided to update you on Breeze and Hazelle since it is almost Hazelle's 6 month day and it was Breezes 19 month day (forgot to mention that she graduated as a Guide dog a day before she turned a year and a half.)  As most of you probably know Breeze is now a working guide dog. Her partner and her live in Idaho. He has 2 kids and a wife. As I met him and got to know I realized what a great thing I did for him and his family and what a great blessing Breeze will be to his life. He is the perfect partner for Breeze. Breeze was already so attached to him when I met him and I am sure they will have many adventures together in the future. About a week ago I got these cute messages from his kids saying how much they love her and that they are thankful for having Breeze in their family. Those messages made my day and I finally got over the feeling of wanting Breeze back because I knew that their family needed her more than me. Now onto Hazelle.
Hazelle is a trouble maker and I have failed to get you all "acquainted" with her. She is this adorable puppy that is a pretty awesome house dog and was a much faster dog to house break than Breeze. The biggest conflict we have with each other is that Hazelle hates the head collar and refuses to wear it. When I say refuse I literally mean refuse. She will not walk with it on and if you put it on her you will literally be pulling her everywhere which makes me look like the cruelest person alive and I would get many comments about it. We have worked and worked with her on it and have done food protocol with her but she does not want to walk anywhere with it on. We have decided to not mess with it and decided that maybe we will try it again in maybe a month or so. The problem with not having a head collar though is that she pulls sometimes and she sticks her head into anything and everything but I guess we will just have to work through that. She has gotten a lot better out in public but gets a little scared depending on the place you go. I have taken her to one class with me and have not tried taking her to my high school because it is so big and crowded that I am worried it will scare her right now but I might try it in a couple days/weeks. Here are 6 things I love about Hazelle or need to work on with her.
  1. She loves to cuddle and will sit in your lap if you let her
  2. She is super soft and super cute
  3. She is a smart puppy which sometimes can be bad but it also means that she learns her commands fast
  4. She has pretty good house manners except when it comes to slippers..
  5. We are working on her loose leash walking without a head collar which she is pretty good at and only have to correct her once or twice.
  6. She watches TV and is curious about everything. She will sit and watch you, see what you are doing, that sort of thing.
And since I have not put many photos on of her here are quite a few. Also some photos from Breeze's graduation.

Phase 8

Breeze is in phase 8 as of Thursday August 18, 2011 around 3:00 PM (when I got the phase report info) on the Oregon campus.
As of Thursday August 18, 2011 at around 11:00 PM Breeze is graduating on August 27, 2011. My family was on vacation when we got the phase report and the call telling us she was in class so my group leader had to email us the information of what happened.
Breeze has been paired with someone who was originally with another dog but that dog didn't work out so the blind partner was paired with Breeze instead as a last minute placement. We knew that Breeze would be easy to pair and so we knew that when she reached phase 8 we would get a call soon after but we didn't know it was going to be the same day.
I was glad when I got the email saying that Breeze was going to graduate on the 27th because I had conflicts for every other graduation after that up until the last week of October (which we knew she was not going to wait that long to be paired.)
I am excited to go and meet her partner and figure out where she will be working. Right now my family is trying to figure out the best way to get out there since graduation is the Saturday after my school starts.
More info to come later when I find out more.

Phase Report

Well today we got phase reports but Breeze and 2 of her other siblings that went back on the truck with her have not been added to the list yet so hopefully she will be on the list next week maybe in phase 1 haha probably not though. They are most likely still doing medical evals with her!

Off to Oregon and last couple days at home

Well yesterday morning I got up bright and early to take Breeze to the puppy truck. We decided that we wanted to leave little Hazelle home. We got there at about 8:00 AM so we just talked to the people at the truck who were giving away their dogs also. I saw two of Breeze's siblings there Becky and Batik. They are both heading to Oregon with her and I am excited to see how they all progress.
The two times I have been to the puppy truck they have been happy times but this time it totally stunk. When we got there one of the drivers of the truck asked me some info about Breeze mainly if she had had Heart worm and then what type of food she is on and how much she gets each day. It was all easy to do until I had to put Breeze on the truck. We put her up in her kennel and said our goodbyes and she just looked like she didn't really care why she was up there but then when we closed the kennel door she looked sad and wondering why we just did what we did. It was really hard for me to leave but then finally did. I hope she does well but there is also a part of me that wants her Career changed because I would love to keep her as a pet. Breeze totally reminded me of me and I think that is why it was also so hard for me to give her up. I am looking forward to the phase reports every week now and every time my leader calls me I will probably freak out.

Breeze should be in Oregon now or soon and is stepping into the next part of her life.

A couple days before Breeze left and when we had just gotten Hazelle we had 4 dogs at our house. We had our own pet dog Graham and then we also had three PIT's in our home: Breeze, Hazelle and Lacole who is a dog in our group.

Lacole has been an awesome dog to watch and even though we had four dogs she made it easier because she is much calmer and kinda lazy like Breeze. It was pretty hectic having four dogs but I think I would rather have four dogs then have Breeze missing. Here are some pictures of the dogs the past few days.

All four dogs settled down and none of them are on tie down. They are all touching each other also.

What happened to my 10 week old pup?

Well today is Breeze's 15 month old day which means she can officially go back to the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus. I remember when I got Breeze at 10 weeks old and just barely starting her training now I have 13 days left with her and getting ready to start the adventure all over again with a new puppy. She was a quick learner and easier to teach because of it. I will miss my white little Breeze like crazy but I really hope she makes it as a guide. I don't think Breeze will be happy just staying home and being a pet dog because she loves going everywhere with me and hates it when I do not take her with me. Breeze has been a great first puppy to train even though she can be super stubborn at times and doesn't want to do what you want her to do at times. She also likes to do things that she know she is not supposed to do just to make sure that you will get mad at her for it such as picking up things in her mouth. She will pick things up in her mouth and then run to you to see if you notice she picked something up, she will drop it once you see what she has but she just does it to make sure that she is still not allowed to do it. I am looking forward to seeing her name on the phase reports every week and seeing her progress and I am excited to see how well she does.

14 Months old

Here are just 14 random things I thought about Breeze.
1. She is very calm with her vest and people always ask if she is always that calm. The answer is no.
2. She is super sweet and I love how she likes to follow me everywhere.
3. Breeze always looks sad even though she is happy.
4. I honestly think she picks things up in her mouth just to see if she will get in trouble.
5. When we let the dogs out to play in our almost an acre yard they just sit at the back door wanting inside.
6. She is very stubborn at times and very easy going other times.
7. She is very good in band class but doesn't really like being in the same room when I play piano.
8. Breeze would rather play with a jug over a bone.
9. She is very stubborn with somethings but totally doesn't care about others.
10. She will not drink plain water from a bowl but loves having it in ice form. :) (we are working on that)
11. On all her Nylabones she chews the 2 sides but never really chews the middle.
12. She will lay on anything to use as a pillow.
13. Because she loves  to follow you everywhere when you are in a bathroom she will go and lay on the towel on the ground or when you are near like a door rug she will lay on that.

13 Months

I am such a terrible person and did not write a 12 month post plus I got this one out a day late. I promise you though that I wrote all of it yesterday except for 2 of the numbers. :) I also did not do very much on her birthday although I did have to give a slide show presentation and we mentioned her in it. Anyway here are her 13 things at 13 months.

1. Breeze is awesome on outings.
2. She has been going on outings without her head collar on and doing really well.
3. Breeze is being recalled on June 8 or 9. I am not looking forward to this day but I think she is ready to move on in her life.
4. She is super soft and super fun to cuddle with and pet.
5. She makes me laugh multiple times a day because she is so dopey.
6. She is pretty much always loose in the house now and does pretty well.
7. She sleeps outside of her kennel on her bed, and does not mess with anything in my room.
8. We tell her to leave a room and she leaves.
9. She will wake you up in the morning if she is told to.
10. She will do anything and go anywhere because she has a very whatever attitude.
11. She is a very calm dog and does not require much energy.
12. She comes to band class with me and does really well in it. Everyone loves her.
13. She is very obedient.

Notice the Difference?

                          (Breeze at 10 weeks old.)

(Breeze almost 9 months old)
notice the size difference?

(Now do you notice the nose? She is 11 months old.)

11 months already :(

It is so sad that my time with Breeze is almost up. She is almost a year old! Here are her 11 things at 11 months.

1. She loves to go to school and see all her new friends.
2. She does really well out in public and will just sleep through school. At home is another thing...

(Breeze with a roll of tape over her mouth)

3. She does really well at night where she just sleeps on her dog bed and doesn't bother anything but her bone.
4. She struts through school like she owns the place. With her tale wagging and her head up. (so cute)
5. She now weighs 56 lbs.
6. She loves to be with people and will lick them anytime she gets the chance. (I am trying to stop it. The licking that is)
7. She is really good at all her commands besides stand. Believe it or not she is quite the lazy dog and tries to lay down as soon as she can.
8. Right after her dinner she just totally crashes on tie down as if she has nothing else to live for.
9. She has started to come to P.E. with me and she is really good except that she gets up from where she is at to come look for me. We will be working on that also.
10. She does really well in my band class and just sleeps through it all. Everyone wants to know how she does it. :)
11. I love her droopy eyes and how she always looks sad. She also is super soft!
I love my doggy! She is so great!

9 things at 9 months Yes I know I am late:)

On the 28th of November, my puppy Breeze turned 9 months old. I can't believe I have had her for 6 months.
Things I love about her :)
1. I love her spunky personality. (Yes she is not always a calm puppy. Without her vest she gets a little too happy) :)
2. She is willing to go anywhere with you.
3. She is not a very vocal puppy.
4. She has the saddest puppy dog eyes ever. When she is waiting for her food she will look up at you with her ears back and keep her head straight while her eyes look up at you.
5. For the most part she walks by your side.
6. She likes to walk fast. (I am a speed walker and my friends have started walking fast because they want to keep up with me. Breeze is the same way because she doesn't like to be pulled.) ;)
7. I also like how she is only active for a couple hours out of everyday so I am able to do homework and such.
8. She has very droopy eyes. They are so cute but make you so sad for her.
9. She has so much extra skin around her head she looks like she has a fur collar.

8 month day!

Yesterday Breeze turned 8 months old! The time has flown by. Here are her 8 things at 8 months.

1. I love her droopy eyes and how dopey she is.
2. I love how good she is out in public and how people ask if she is always that calm. (The answer is no.)
3. I love that she is a really pretty white color, but that her ears and tail are darker than the rest of her!
4. I love how soft she is (like velvet).
5. I love how she is willing to do whatever we are doing because she has a very "whatever" attitude.
6. I love how when she chews her toy bones she lifts them up into the air and chews on them in between the stair rails or on the couch or just up in the air.
(Breeze chewing her bone on the couch. It looks like she is
chewing the couch but really she is not)

7.  I love how she will not whine in her crate if I am still asleep. She will just go back to sleep until I am ready to get her out.
8. I love how she is so worried about me. Sometimes when my mom gets her up in the morning for me while I am still sleeping she comes running into my room to make sure that I am okay.
Bonus- because she is just that awesome: I love how she tries to scratch an itch with her back paw while standing up. (It never works.)

Paws

Well I was looking at Breeze's paws and I think they are huge. The reason I think this is because they are bigger then my dog Grahams. Here are some pictures of both of them. Tell me what you think!
